Simon Construction Restores a Landmark in Missouri

Tropicana Lanes

Under the supervision of Project Manager, John Zechmeister, Simon Construction recently completed a roof restoration on Tropicana Bowling Lanes; one of the oldest bowling alleys in the midwest and a landmark in Clayton, MO.

Tropicana was designed by local googie architect, Erwin Knoese and constructed in 1960. The large center portion of the roof was originally installed with rolled granulated asphalt and replaced by Simon Construction with Carlisle single ply .60 mil TPO.  This material not only brought the building up to code, but exceeded code requirements, offering an extended lifetime for the historic structure.

Tropicana Lanes- In Progress

Tropicana Lanes have been in business for more than 50 years bringing national attention to St. Louis by hosting the Professional Bowlers Tour; a nationally televised bowling tournament. They have also hosted many other national tournaments attracting bowlers from all over the country. Tropicana Lanes’ large sign has been a landmark on Clayton Road for more than fifty years. During those fifty  years, three generations of Richmond Heights residents have enjoyed the facilities from bowling to playing pool, or attending a wedding reception, or enjoying dinner and brew in the lounge.
